Most speed-dating events specify a certain cultural background, religion, or age group as a requirement to participate.

Among the over-50 population, this style of dating is especially common.

DOVER — Students from high schools throughout the Seacoast networked Thursday with local business and industry professionals.

The Bridge to Our Future event, hosted by the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce, put 56 high school students in a speed-dating atmosphere at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital to meet local established professionals from 12 industries.“I thought it was pretty interesting and very helpful,” said Ben Clement, a junior at Oyster River High School.

Granted, you may not get as much time as you’d like with the person you do enjoy, but you have the chance to spend countless hours with that individual after the event is over. There’s nothing more exciting than meeting a ton of new potential dates in one evening.

Perhaps the increasing need for companionship is to blame, or maybe the adrenalin-pumping nature of the event makes it so attractive.

I thought it was really cool that everyone in the community came out for a common cause.”This was the fourth year the Chamber has hosted the event.

(The idea is that the participants will not feel pressure to accept or request contact information face to face.) The first organized speed-dating event took place in 1998 in Beverly Hills, California.
